The SCIT networking lab (netLAB) includes a variety of networking devices and software commonly used throughout small businesses and large enterprises. The lab includes over 70 Cisco routers and switches, multiple Cisco VOIP phones, and a server farm that hosts multiple Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 based virtual servers for students to design their own network infrastructures. Access Your Own Virtual Server From Home: Virtual servers are set up for each student enrolled in the Microsoft Server 2008 R2 courses. Students can access their own virtual server in the classroom or from home to work on projects and prepare for IT certifications such as the Microsoft MCITP Enterprise Administrator certification.
Obtain Free Microsoft Software: As a Microsoft IT Academy Program Member, SCIT students enrolled in Microsoft based courses may obtain free authorized Microsoft software to install on their home computer for education use. Software available include: Microsoft Server 2008 R2, Windows 7 Professional, Visual Studio 2008, and SQL Server 2008 R2.
The goal of netLAB is to provide students hand-on training with various technologies that are used to build robust computer networks. Training starts from the ground up, from properly crimping CAT 5E cables to setting up routing protocols on Cisco Routers and configuring domains.
Projects include multisite network design, static and dynamic routing protocol configurations, virtual LAN implementations, variable length subnet mask (VLSM) network design, active directory implementations, server clustering, virtualization and much more.
